Materials for frame base

Before you start the creative process, you need to choose a design option. The following tools will be needed for the work:

  • Scissors, jigsaw;
  • felt-tip pens, pencils;
  • ruler;
  • PVA or Moment glue;
  • nails;
  • paint;
  • plane;
  • stain, varnish;
  • material for work.

When creating photo frames with your own hands, it is necessary to observe harmony in the combination of materials used with the image. This creates a single image, which will be a unique design thing to decorate the room.

Cardboard

To make a frame for a photo from cardboard is possible even for a junior high school student. You will need to cut out two quadrangles. On one of them cut a hole in the form of a rectangle. Its size will be slightly smaller than the size of the photo.

Using PVA glue the side parts and the lower part glued to each other.

The support stand is cut out of hard paper and fixed on the back of the product. If you plan to hang the product on the wall, you need to glue a loop of twine.

Insert the photo into the top unglued part of the product. Photo frame made of cardboard is ready.

Paper

A variant of such a frame is wonderful because you only need scissors and a piece of paper for work. Its dimensions depend on the format of the piece of paper.

First a template for the future product is printed on the printer. For this purpose, a photo is placed in the middle of the sheet and its contours are outlined. After that, cut strips of 1, 5 cm wide and put them aside for a while.

On the template from the bottom and top make slits. Next, you need to carefully bend the strips drawn on the ruler and wrap them in the sides of the frame for the photo.

First of all, folded short, and then the long side. The main task - to insert the corners of long sides of the product into the corners of the short sides.

If the sheet of paper is quite thick or glossy, it is allowed to insert the photo first and only then roll up the sides. If necessary, you can drop a few drops of glue for stability of the paper structure.

Wood

In most cases, wooden photo frames are designed in neutral colors. Despite the fact that products made of wood are characterized by a simple form, you need to have some experience to work.

The easiest way is to use wooden slats of the right size. Based on the parameters of the photo make four blanks. To attach the canvas, it is important that the inner part of the image is overlapped by the frame by 5 mm.

There is a more labor-intensive way of making frames from wood with a glass insert.

This method will require making a back wall of thin plywood.

After calculating the thickness of the photo and glass, you need to strengthen the inside of the wooden blanks by the obtained value. As a rule, this parameter is 2-5 mm. Then saw the slats from the wood at the selected angle, using an angle piece and a plane for the work.

The cuts are processed with sandpaper and glued into a square or quadrilateral. The complete drying time of the made piece is 4-5 hours, after which you can start decorating it with paint or stain.

First, you place the glass in the wooden photo frame. After that, it is turned upside down with the main part, and only after that, the image is placed on the glass, then cardboard and a piece of plywood. Thin nails can be nailed into the corners.

Plaster

To cast a frame for a photo made of plaster, you need to have a mold on hand:

  • A casting mold with a smooth surface. A lid from a plastic food container will do just fine for this purpose;
  • water;
  • dry plaster;
  • A container and a spoon for mixing the solution.

Work steps:

  1. In a container, pour dry gypsum and add water while constantly stirring until a thick consistency.
  2. The prepared gypsum mortar is quickly poured into the mold. The thickness of the poured layer should not be less than 8 - 10 mm. Otherwise, the dried frame can easily crack.
  3. If the piece you made will be hung on the wall, use a simple metal clip to make a hinge. It is placed in the middle of the frame closer to the top. After the product dries, the loop is adjusted parallel to the product.
  4. If the created thing will be placed on the table, should be cut out of cardboard stands the size of the length of two-thirds of the workpiece height and about 2-3 cm wide.
  5. After 24 hours, the workpiece is gently removed from the container and left to dry again. When all the moisture has evaporated, the plaster workpiece becomes much lighter.
  6. It is desirable to sand the resulting blank to remove small imperfections.

The base is ready and you can proceed to the selection of decor.

The branches of the tree

First you need to decide on the base of the photo frame. This can be either thick cardboard or wood. The chosen base is covered with brown paint.

While it dries, it is recommended to clean the branches of the tree from the street dirt and cut them with a secateurs. The size of the branches should be 1 cm longer than the base.

While the hot gun is heated, the branches are laid out on the base in the desired position. Then in a clockwise direction, glue each branch.

Masters advise to lay out in the first place volumetric, and then thin branches. By using this method, the framing will turn out more beautiful.

On the back side, a picture is placed, glued to the base. Such a frame is light enough. You can hang it on the wall, taking care to create a loop of paper and string, or you can form a stand for the photo frame.

Wooden popsicle sticks

A great use can be found for wooden popsicle sticks. They make an excellent frame for your photos. For a creative activity, you need bright colours and stationery glue.

For the simplest model, you will need eight popsicle sticks. They are laid out on a base in the form of stars or overlapping two sticks in each corner. It all depends on the imagination of the craftsman. Then the parts are fixed with glue.

Ceiling tiles

Frame for photos can be made from ceiling tiles. The product can be given a variety of shapes - from rectangular to oval.

To make an oval frame, you need to cut a special template. It is attached to the material and outlined with a simple pencil. Then cut out the outlined oval.

Beautiful wallpaper is glued to the smooth cardboard. When the cardboard dries, glue the ornamental material to it. When working it is desirable to use tile adhesive which is notable for its density.

The glue is applied with a brush to the cardboard, carefully smooth out the wallpaper, forcing the air. Put a weight on top and leave to dry for an hour. The frame is ready.

Skirting board

This material is a suitable base for effectively framing pictures. Procedure:

  1. The first corner of the ceiling plinth is sawed off at a 45 degree angle.
  2. The skirting board is attached to the selected photo. It should be measured so that its length is 7 cm less than the length of the photo.
  3. With the help of a plinth saw, the second corner is sawn off.
  4. All sawn blanks are glued into one product with hot glue. The photo is placed on the frame with an overlap of 3 mm on four sides. To obtain reliable fasteners, a slot is made in the ornamental material - a baseboard. A clerical rubber band is inserted into it and filled with any glue. It is allowed to glue the frame to the photo with PVA glue.

Dough

Salt dough is a soft and gracious material. You can mold a lot of different crafts from it, including the basis of a frame for the photo. To prevent it from "going" when drying, it is better to stick the dough on a solid base.

You can wrap the dough around a wire base. The edges are smoothed out with a ruler, and when the almost finished product is rectangular, you need to smooth the edges with your fingers moistened with water.

It is important not to forget to insert paper clips along the edges of the raw frame so that you can insert a thin string after it dries.

Decorating photo frames

When the base for the frame is ready, you need to decorate it. Many different elements can be glued to the frame. To learn how to make a photo frame at home, you need to familiarize yourself with the proposed options for the original design.

From seashells

Decorating frames with seashells should begin with their preparation - washing, drying and sorting by size and color.

After processing the ornamental material, you need to think about an unusual design. Shells are placed on the basis, moving them, swap places, until a beautiful pattern appears. Only after that can the shells begin to be glued.

A glue gun is used for fixing. It is better to start decorating the frame with large shells, and fill the gaps between them with small shells.

When the glue dries, the surface of the frame is covered with transparent varnish. It also needs time to dry. Only after that, you can frame your favorite photo and admire the result.

From denim

The material for the design of photo frames will be old jeans, from which you can cut out the most fanciful details. This variant will describe how to prepare peculiar "twists" from denim strips as a decoration.

First you need to make a template. Take a picture of the right size, put it on a hard cardboard and outline with a simple pencil on four sides. The picture is removed and on the cardboard from the outlined silhouette indented on each side by 5-6 cm. Excess cardboard is trimmed.

The fabric is cut into many narrow strips - blanks. The ends of the strips of denim are smeared with polymer glue, so they do not disintegrate

One by one, each strip is rolled up into a roll, smeared with glue on one side, and fixed to a cardboard base until the frame is transformed. After that, trim the protruding pieces of cardboard around the perimeter of the craft and leave it to dry.

When the glue finally hardens, it is necessary to cut the outermost "twists" near all the inner parts of the frame from below, slightly lifting the cardboard. The photo should easily enter the resulting space.

An interesting handicraft is ready. It remains only to make a loop on the back side so that the stylish thing can be hung on the wall.

From the yarn

The decoration of photo frames made of yarn is very simple. The house probably has a lot of leftover yarn, colorful mélange, from which you can make the author's "frame" for the photo.

On the back of the cardboard base, you should glue a thread and, when it is well glued, wrap it evenly around the frame you are making.

You can make the job a little more complicated by using two or even three yarns. Then the wrapping should be alternated, fixing the beginning and end of the yarn with a glue stick on the back of the product.

Made of felt.

The basis of the frame can be cardboard or paper. The following materials will be needed:

  • Multicolored felt;
  • Solid cardboard;
  • PVA glue;
  • sequins;
  • scissors;
  • double-sided adhesive tape;
  • transparent tape;
  • ruler.

Step by step:

  1. Cut a quadrilateral out of felt, equal to the area of the cardboard base.
  2. In the middle, cut a hole with the size of the photo.
  3. From felt of other colors, cut out figures in the form of blots, circles.
  4. Glue the decorative elements to the felt, mix glue with sequins and carefully spread the mixture.
  5. Cover the picture with transparent film and fix it in the center of a cardboard base.
  6. Put the frame under the pressure for a couple of hours.

This is just one of the options. Everyone can add something of their own to the design.

From discs

Pieces of discs can be used to make a shiny mosaic picture frame.

You need to break into small pieces of CDs. On the cardboard draw a silhouette of the place for the photo. Then begin pasting solid cardboard pieces of discs. It is desirable to start with the edges so that the mosaic of discs was uniform.

Wait 30 minutes for the disc pieces to stick to the base. The final part of the work is gluing the photo. This work on the manufacture of photo frames from improvised materials is considered complete.
