Handmade deer crafts: step by step master classes of natural and improvised materials
The deer is a large, but surprisingly graceful animal. Its images or three-dimensional figures can effectively decorate interiors for the New Year or Christmas holidays.
This article describes step by step schemes of how to make homemade figures from cardboard and fabric, in the technique of quilling, etc. Include your imagination, stock up on the necessary set of tools, materials and create!
Materials and tools for work
For the process of creativity brought only pleasure, carefully prepare a comfortable workplace, the necessary material and tools.
All the master classes in this article rely on a basic template blank. Try to choose simple drawings for it without careful tracing of details. Draw better with a simple pencil, it is easier to erase in case of an unsuccessful image. Circle the correct drawing with a marker.
Ideas for handmade deer crafts
There is a huge variety of options for performing such a handicraft: sewing, molding, applique, formation from throw-away material. Choose what suits you, and everything will work out for sure.
Paper applique
Paper applications are the easiest to make. By creating original sketches on their own, everyone will be able to make an original forest giant applique.
To do this, just use scissors to cut out of paper (colored, white or even newspaper) all the details of the animal - the body, head with horns and ears, muzzle, miniature eyes, nose, hooves and spots.
Use pieces of ribbon of different texture and width as decorations.
Think up unusual deer configurations with children, from geometric shapes, for example. Even children will not be difficult to cut out an oval for the body, a rectangular neck and thin legs, round head, small ovals for horns.
Glue it all in the right order on the green cardboard depicting the forest thicket. Small details such as ears, tail, etc. cut out and glue you yourself.
The deer from cardboard
An edible version of the original handicraft:
- From colored cardboard cut a rectangle 20x15 cm and fold in half.
- To the fold in the center of the resulting figure is attached chupa-chups. Go around his contour, partially capturing the stick. Cut a hole-nose.
- Drew a reindeer head in the shape of a light bulb to the nose, cut it out.
- Dorisovyvayut eyes, mouth. Decorate if desired.
- The hole is inserted in the nose-chupa-chups. Mask the place of cardboard folds ribbon.
Foamiran
Handicrafts made of foamir rubber is elegant and unusual. Such a reindeer will look great on a branch of the Christmas tree.
Need:
- scissors
- foamiran
- toothpick
- shiny string
- beads of appropriate size
- ribbon for the bow
- Templates of reindeer body with head and ears, muzzle, horns, inner part of ears and hoof
- glue gun
How to work:
- Take foamiran (would be more beautiful to look shiny), on the back side attach all the templates in turn, around with a toothpick, cut out all the parts in 2 pieces, muzzle - 1 pc, hooves - 4 pcs.
- Glue horns on back side of head.
- Make a loop from gold thread and glue it there.
- Coat the entire surface of this part of the torso with glue, glue it to the second similar part.
- On one side of the resulting figure glue a muzzle, ears inside, hooves glued to both sides.
- Half beads of smaller size make out the eyes, larger - the nose.
- Decorate the forehead and back patches of foamirin in a matching color.
- On the neck glue a bow of ribbon.
Paper Reindeer Garland
- Draw a silhouette of a reindeer on cardboard.
- Cut out cardboard figures.
- Paint muzzles, decorate with glitter or ribbons garland (tie bows).
- Glue on a long ribbon at the same distance from each other.
Garland - Santa Claus harness ready!
The reindeer from the sleeve
Another unusual way to make a reindeer figurine is from a cardboard cylinder or sleeve of paper towels or toilet paper. The cylinder will be in place of the body:
- Details for the muzzle, and also the ears and horns are cut from fabric or paper.
- Paint the body with brown paint and let it dry.
- You can decorate it without using paint - with brown fabric or paper.
- Glue small elements on the resulting base.
From a cardboard box
Such a miniature figure can not only put on the child's bedside table, but also hang it on the Christmas tree, give it as a gift, etc.
For work we will need:
- ready-made templates of animal body parts
- cardboard
- paints
- scissors
- stationery knife
- glue.
Using templates, trace all the parts on a sheet of cardboard. Assembled it with the help of slots cut through. We cut out blanks:
- head in full-face with horns and ears - a slit on the muzzle from bottom to top,
- Torso with neck and muzzle in profile - slits upwards in the places where the legs will be inserted,
- pairs of hind legs (wider in volume) and front legs - slits from top to bottom with a box cutter. Place a cutting board under the cardboard.
Workflow:
- Connect all the parts to each other, paint the resulting reindeer.
- To make it look festive, decorate it with rhinestones or sequins.
- As an alternative decoration - glue the cut out parts with self-adhesive tape and only then connect them.
- You can decorate the horns with snowflakes or flecks of frosted glitter.
With wire
The luminous frame reindeer figurines made of wire look very nice. To make this Christmas miracle you will need:
- A reindeer template made of thick cardboard,
- thick copper wire,
- polyethylene stretch wrap,
- scissors,
- wire cutters.
Workflow:
- To make the frame, you need to fold a long piece of wire in half. Form the back of the animal on a template to trace the contours of the abdomen and legs.
- Then one end of the wire to run forward and splice with the other edge in the area of the reindeer's chest.
- In the same way make the outlines of the head with muzzle, neck.
- Another piece of copper wire is used to form the back and make a binding at the bend at the end of the back - the tail.
- The resulting skeleton is stuffed with clumps of foil.
- To seal the legs, we insert polyethylene flagella between the wire.
- Then you need to wrap the whole figure of the animal with foil, cutting it into strips 4 cm wide.
- Densely from bottom to top are wrapped around the legs.
- Use the same wire to make horns and attach them to the head. Under each horn leave a loop - the ears.
- For polyethylene horns we use 1 cm wide strips.
- Wrap all the remaining parts. Stretch the foil tighter.
- Hide the remaining ends of the foil behind the ears and under the tail with a toothpick.
You can instead of the film wrapped frame brown chenille (fluffy) wire. We get nice nice touch reindeer.
Dimensional paper reindeer head
- Make a reindeer head using origami technique. We put the short side of the sheet A 4 to the long side, so that the edges coincide completely. Let's cut the bottom part. We get a triangle:
- Fold it in half to make a small triangle. Thus we get the necessary lines of folds.
- Top left turn in a diamond. Turn the workpiece. Do the same.
- Bend the side corners to the middle and the triangle on top. Unfold.
- Pull the corner at the bottom into an irregular rhombus. Turn the product.
- Bend the upper part down, put everything back.
- Slightly sloping from the middle of the bend upward at the bottom corners.
- Bend the triangle down and slightly up and down again. At the top of a triangle bend down.
- Those corners that stick out sideways, bend downward, then a little to the top.
- Cut into two equal parts protruding corner and make the same as in step 9.
That's how easy it is to make a reindeer head.
Reindeer from plastic bottles
For the following crafts you will need:
- 1.5 liter plastic bottles,
- plasticine,
- twigs or sticks for horns and feet,
- glue,
- knife.
Workflow:
- In a plastic bottle for the body with a knife make small holes.
- Insert the legs of the sticks, dabbing them with glue at the junction.
- Use plasticine to fix all 4 legs on a stand of plywood or polystyrene.
- A foil sleeve will serve as our neck. For her make a hole in the body in a suitable place larger. Insert there the sleeve.
- For the head take another bottle. Cut a hole in it for the sleeve-neck. Attach the head to the neck.
- Let's paint a color of your choice, draw a muzzle, fix horns from twigs. Thick twigs will look beautiful.
Made of felt
For the souvenir mascot we will need:
- thread with needles;
- pieces of felt;
- pins;
- Ribbons of satin.
Workflow:
- Draw and cut out a template of the figure of the animal.
- We trace it on the back side of the felt, cut 2 blanks with an allowance of 1 cm.
- Fold the pieces exactly on top of each other with the right sides. Stitch or hand sew not all the way through.
- Turn the figure on its face. Fill it with stuffing, sew it up.
- Sew or glue beaded eyes and nose on the face.
- Satin ribbon beautifully tied around the neck.
The gift is ready!
Made of absorbent cotton
- First we make the frame of the reindeer from wire. It can be either volumetric or planar.
- Then roll balls of absorbent cotton and use them to finish the "skeleton". Each ball is attached to the wire with small pieces of tape.
- For the horns use small lumps.
It turns out a beautiful and neat handicraft.
From wine corks
- Make a torso from one wine cork.
- With small pieces of aluminum wire, fasten 4 legs-corks on the body. To do this, simply pierce them with wire.
- On the opposite side of the tube-torso, we attach a piece of cork - the neck - in the same way.
- On it fix horizontally turned cap - head.
- Glue eyes and nose of beads on the face.
- We stick horns of copper wire carefully on both sides of the head.
From cones
For the deer we will need:
- cones of different sizes - 2 pcs;
- sticks for the legs;
- Clay black, brown, white;
- twigs for the horns;
- ruler;
- a leaf of any tree;
- scissors.
Workflow:
- First, from the white plasticine roll 2 balls, flatten them into tortillas.
- Make 2 smaller balls of black plasticine, attach them to the white.
- On the back side of the white plasticine, use scissors to cut out shapes of drops from a leaf - eyelashes.
- Roll a ball of brown clay and make a semblance of a muzzle. Press outlines of a mouth and nostrils.
- Attach all parts to a smaller cone - you get the head of a baby deer.
- Fix the horns with a plasticine ball.
- Connect the resulting head with the body from a bigger cone, using the same plasticine.
- In a large cone bottom are inserted feet with hooves of black plasticine.
In the technique of quilling
To work we will need:
- Trunk cut
- Scrapbooking paper
- Paper for quilling
- PVA glue
- Quilling tool
- Scissors
- Reverse tweezers
- Needle nose
- Dotter knife
Workflow:
- Cut out a template of a reindeer with beautiful antlers.
- Place on white pastel paper, use a dotter knife to trace the outline. Cut out the blank.
- Fold two strips of white quilling paper 7 mm wide in half.
- Using a cone-shaped awl, twist the strips in 2 turns. Pull out the awl, twist the strips to the end. Then gently dissolve them.
- With tweezers attach the spiral to the horn on the workpiece, trim off the excess.
- Pour a little PVA glue on a saucer (it dries quickly). Tweezers dip the strip with one edge of the glue. Remove excess glue by pressing the strip to the edge of the saucer.
- Glue the element to the horns.
- Do the same with all the curls of the horns.
- In the same way twist spirals on the hooves.
- Now you need to fold three strips into two equal parts, twist them into a roll and dissolve into a spiral. Make two identical spirals.
- Glue them to the abdomen.
- To fill the spirals from the inside, you can twist and glue rolls of different diameters.
- From the next strip form a ring, glue the tip, from the ring - a leaf and glue to the tail.
- Twist the roll, dissolve, squeeze the sides, leaving the round center untouched. Bend the resulting diamond in the ear and glue.
- Similar rhombuses to fill the tail.
- The contour of the deer is gradually glued straight strips.
- Half strip rolled into a roll, unravel into a spiral, tuck the tip, bend to hoof. Glue it in place. And so 4 times.
- Curl loops (see above), fill the legs.
- From the spiral leaf is the eye. Glue it to the head. For the nose roll up tightly to the right size. Cut off the excess, tuck in the tip. Glue the roll. The pupil of the eye perform the same way.
- Glue the ends of 3 strips in length for the design of the back of the animal and 5 strips for the neck. Twist all the strips into rolls, with tweezers to give shape. Glue.
- To be able to place the reindeer, cut out on a template from heavy cardboard base. Smear it well with glue and glue the finished reindeer.
- Using hot glue, glue the legs to the sawed-off trunk. Hold the workpiece until the glue dries.
