How to draw the skull: step-by-step drawing master classes in different techniques and positions
The skull is one of the main parts of the musculoskeletal system in the human body. The image of the skull box can be useful for a student, a doctor on periodic training, just an inquisitive person.
In addition, a detailed drawing of the bones of the brain is necessary for many developers of professional applications, for example, compilers of anatomical atlases.
However, the skull is by no means always a purely scientific preparation. In many cartoons and comic books, the skull symbolizes the story setting or acts as a character itself.
Preparation of materials and tools
A complete set of necessary materials and tools depends on the future purpose of the drawing. If the implementation of a simple creative idea is meant, it is enough to prepare a comfortable table and chair, a set of pencils, felt-tip pens for decorating, a sample or a ready-made image for drawing.
A completely different set will be needed for drawing a human skull on a professional level:
- A tablet, slanted board or easel can be taken care of instead of the usual table.
- A set of plain pencils of various diameters and fats is needed to prepare the sketch.
- The quality of the illumination is one of the most important points.
The eraser will allow you to remove all unnecessary strokes and defects in the drawing. You can also draw the skull with paint or pastel crayons.
Skull in full-face
Any drawing with the skull (a character from cartoons or a realistic image of anatomical preparations) begin with drawing the model in full-face. For the work you need a ready sketch or drawing, as well as a sheet of paper, a pencil, and an eraser. Instructions on how to draw a human skull step by step:
- A sheet of paper is placed in front of you in a vertical projection.
- Using a pair of compasses or independently draw a circle in the middle of the sheet.
- From the outer points of the geometric figure to the center lead two intersecting lines.
- From the central point downwards lead a straight line. The length of the line outside the circle should be a distance equal to the radius of the circle.
- Straight stripe, located outside the geometric shape, divided into three equal parts.
- Using the divided band as a base, draw a "basket" instead of the lower half of the circle. Basket has the shape of a rectangle, slightly expanding upward.
- Under the very edge of the rectangle should depict two small ovals that represent the chin.
- Next, with the help of smooth lines connect the oval shapes with the remaining parts of the future skull.
- In that part of the original circle, where the two bottom quadrants are located, draw two ovals - eye sockets.
- On their upper contour a smooth arc-shaped line is drawn, which gives volume to the image of eye sockets.
- The arc should protrude beyond the circle, and oblique lines connect to the middle of the "basket".
- A smooth line is drawn from the corner of the eye socket with a pencil to the opposite orbit, which must necessarily pass through the point of the chin. The jaw and nasal cavity will be depicted in this area.
- Between the eye sockets and just below their level, a pear-shaped aperture is drawn - the external entrance to the nasal cavity. At the top of this figure has a characteristic jagged shape, consisting of the outgrowths of bone.
- Exactly in the middle of the intended area of the mouth a horizontal arcuate line is drawn.
- At the top and bottom two strips of teeth are depicted. It should be remembered that there is no soft tissue on the skull, and therefore the gums will take up much more space.
Using several arched lines above the eye sockets, under the eye sockets highlight the areas of the temple and the zygomatic arches on both sides. All the most important lines in the drawing should be highlighted with a bolder pencil, and unnecessary strokes should be removed with an eraser.
Do not forget about the shadows on the skull box: dashed lines are placed in the area of the eye sockets, on the zygomatic arches, in the area of the pear-shaped aperture.
Skull from a cartoon cell cartoon
For those masters who have no artistic experience or little familiarity with anatomical preparations, you can use a notebook sheet, a simple pencil or a pen. Instructions on how to draw a skull step by step:
- The sheet is laid in front of you in either axis.
- With a pen or pencil draw a horizontal line of six cells.
- From the edges of the strip the pen is led two cells upwards.
- The ends of the vertical lines are connected in a semicircle. The very first line is divided into three sections, imitating the jaw on the skull.
- In the center of the semicircle must depict two eyes in the form of small circles. The area of geometric shapes is sketched with paste.
- Descending one cell down from the eye sockets, depict the aperture in the form of a triangle, the top of which points upwards.
Supplement such a skull for beginners with a stylish inscription "STOP" or "YAD". A very interesting emblem is obtained if you add to the skull two bones protruding from behind the skull box.
Skull with Two Swords
What kid doesn't know the pirate symbol depicting a skull with two swords. To create such a drawing you will need to prepare a sheet of white paper, a pencil, paints or felt-tip pens and an eraser. Instructions on how to draw a skull with a pencil easily and simply:
- The sheet of paper is placed in front of you in a vertical axis.
- In the center of the sheet depict the outline of the skull. For effective results, you can use a ready-made sketch or model of the first drawing (with a step-by-step depiction of a circle, a basket and arcing lines).
- From the top of the skull, two arc-shaped lines are drawn in both directions. Lines lead up to the chosen point, and then lower them down and slightly to the side (the tip of the sword).
- Slightly down to the side, again lead the pencil downwards, parallel to the first band. Thus, the artist receives two sword points, protruding from behind the skull.
- The next step is to draw the handles of knives. To do this, from the bottom of the skull in two directions draw the hilt and handles (any ready sketch can be taken as a sample).
- Then it is necessary to work out in detail the skull itself. To do this, two ovals are drawn in the upper half of the front part.
- Between adjacent geometric figures are depicted brought together brow arches.
- Below the eye sockets cheekbone arches should be marked, which are usually clearly visible on the bones.
- Not forgetting the pear-shaped aperture, which is immediately painted over with small frequent strokes.
The lower part of the skull is divided by an arc-shaped stripe that shows the line of the mouth. Two rows of teeth are drawn at the top and bottom. To accentuate the chin line, a characteristic jag should be made in this area.
Such a drawing can be done exclusively in black and white, or you can use multi-colored felt-tip pens and draw a pirate flag, hat or a funny bandage.
As an interesting entourage, quite often a chest of gold coins or a classic bottle of rum is drawn. Such images should be made as bright as possible, painting the contents of the chest in yellow, and the intended places of scuffing - sketching with dashed lines.
Comic Book Character
Today the art of drawing comics is very popular, however, such a hobby requires from the master certain artistic skills. For decorating, you should prepare a marker, and the rest of the set of materials is identical to all the previous master classes.
Instructions on how to recreate a drawn skull on paper:
- The contours of the skull are drawn using any of the known techniques.
- From the top extreme point of the skull box, oblique lines are drawn in both directions. The lines should not be perfectly straight, as they represent the folds of the skull.
- Bringing the smooth lines to the chosen point, the pencil is turned back, and lead the strip down, to the intended neck.
- The comic book character should have a certain expression on the "face", and therefore the master should slightly extend the mouth line, extend the jaws even more, and enlarge the teeth a bit. The zygomatic arches are made more distinct, which creates the visual effect of a smiling skull.
To create a realistic effect, you should duplicate the edges of the hood (double lines). In addition, it will be necessary to depict several vertical stripes, imitating fabric folds.
As an original addition, you can draw part of the neck (two straight lines, from which short branches depart to the sides). If you find a good sketch for sketching, get to draw a hand with knuckles.
