How to draw a dress easily and beautifully - step-by-step master classes and interesting ideas for drawing
You don't have to go to art school or take individual art classes to learn how to draw. A child or an adult just needs to learn how to correctly place a depicted object at the right angle, to learn the rules of sketching shadows and background.
Every girl as a child probably drew dresses, costumes and accessories for their own paper dolls. And such a creative process has a number of advantages, allowing to develop the imagination and abstract perception of the child.
What to draw an outfit for
Today, the world of fashion and design is actively developing, and therefore you can find a variety of models of accessories. These can be outfits with a symmetrical cut or with an asymmetrical edge of the hem.
The shape of the bodice, the width and design of the belt differ from each other. There are quite a few areas where the artist can use his own design:
- As an exhibit at a creative exhibition.
- To prepare a personal portfolio.
- Dresses can be drawn as sketches for further tailoring.
Beautiful outfits on paper are created to decorate dolls, to furnish a large dollhouse. Finally, the image of various accessories is used simply to develop the master's artistic skills.
Preparation of materials and tools
For any creative process, the master needs a table. It can be both an ordinary wide tabletop, and a convenient drawing tablet. For sketching professional patterns and sketches, an individual easel will come in handy.
Also you should take care in advance about high-quality lighting. Useful in the work and the following tools:
- Sheets of white office paper, Watman.
- A set of simple pencils.
- For a child's drawing colored pencils, felt-tip pens, paints and brushes are needed.
- Eraser.
You can draw the dress with pastel crayons, which allow you to retouch different colors, create beautiful gradients.
A simple outfit in pencil.
To begin with, you should draw a simple model with a V-neck and a mid-length skirt. For the creative process it is necessary to prepare a pencil, a sheet of paper and an eraser. If necessary, you can choose a dress for sketching (any option you like):
- It is better to start your work from the top.
- A sheet of white paper should be laid out in front of you in a vertical axis.
- Visually mark the upper half of the sheet.
- Pencil draw the letter V, but the lines have a smoother direction.
- One of the lines that form a V-shape, continue slightly downwards, beyond the point of intersection.
- From the upper points of the figure in different directions draw two short strips, which then turn down. The contours of the two lines run parallel to the figure V, but the artist needs to make a smooth curve to the outside about the middle of each line. The bodice of the dress is ready.
- Under the bodice additionally need to depict the belt. Its width can be different, and depends on the model chosen for the drawing.
- As a rule, the belt is shaped like a rectangle that covers the bodice along the bottom contour.
- Two lines are drawn from the lowest points of the waistband downwards, which diverge smoothly as you move down the bottom of the sheet.
- It is important for the artist to imagine the approximate height of the model in order to correctly select the proportions of the bodice and skirt.
- The bottom part of the skirt (hem) has an uneven edge, which can be depicted as a wavy line. The middle of the hem lifted up, imitating the folds of the fabric. On the surface of the skirt, thin, barely noticeable stripes (to complete the image of a realistic outfit) lead upwards from the wavy folds.
- Similar folds need to be drawn from the waistband to the bodice of the dress.
The master has only to paint the new outfit, and present it in a personal album, as a drawing at an exhibition, or cut it out as a doll's outfit.
If the doll's closet is supposed to be replenished, you should prepare a few tabs along the outline of the drawing to help fix the cut outfit on the paper doll.
Drawing a ball outfit
What girl does not dream of being on a festive ball. And every child, of course, remembers, about the fabulous Cinderella outfit, and more precisely, about the ball gown.
Today a very popular tradition to celebrate graduation parties and many other celebrations in a magnificent dress with rings, ruffles and other decorative elements.
The sketch for the future dress can be drawn with your own hands. You will need a set of simple pencils, an eraser and paper. The size and scale of the sketch does not matter much, because the exact dimensions are displayed later on the patterns.
The main task of the master in this case is to display the finest details of the image. Instructions on how to draw a ball gown:
- As in the previous version, begin the creative work with the bodice.
- A ball gown can have straps, or be held together with a corset. The straps are depicted as two vertically mounted ellipses without a bottom.
- If the model is provided with a corset, immediately begin drawing the bodice.
- On the sheet draw a short horizontal stripe that will represent a section of the back surface of the bodice.
- From the outer points of the horizontal stripe downwards diagonally draw two lines that converge at one point.
- Further, from the same extreme points lead two more oblique lines, the direction of which has a smaller angle. These two lines do not intersect but stop at the point where the waist of the fashionista is supposedly located.
- Ball gowns, as a rule, have only removable belts, so you should immediately begin to portray the skirt.
- From the marked points of the waist begin to draw the skirt. To do this, first make a wide semicircle, covering the supposed hips, and then lead the skirt extended downwards.
- All ball gowns assume a wide hem that is held in place by rings. For this reason, the lines showing the borders of the skirt diverge by a sufficient width.
- The edge of the accessory - the hem - also has a wavy appearance.
- The artist's next task is to draw the skirt and bodice in detail.
- A beautiful brooch can be depicted on the waist area, from which two satin ribbons are directed downward (this will be a removable belt).
- From the wavy hem upwards lines imitating fabric folds are directed.
- The skirt of the dress may have two layers. In this case draw two oblique strips that start from the belt and go down to the wavy hem. Dashed lines are painted on the inside, which shows a different kind of textile.
Coloring and decorating the festive outfit depends on the imagination and personal wishes of the future attendee of the ball.
Drawing a godet model
A very famous model of the dress is a style of gode or "fish". To depict such an accessory, you will need a pencil and a sheet of paper. Instructions on how to draw a dress with a pencil:
- The bodice of the future dress is drawn according to a similar scheme, in the form of the letter V.
- The godeau has no belt, so the waist line is depicted as a thin smoothly transitioning line. The closet piece itself is characterized by a special plasticity, which must be displayed in the drawing of the master.
- The contours of the hips are drawn in the form of slightly extended strips.
- From the assumed waist down the lines showing the skirt.
- The upper part of the skirt is narrow enough, so no folds or extensions of the hem need to be done.
The most important part - to draw an extension of the bottom hem, which determines the style of the "fish". Approximately at the level of the knees begin to gradually expand the lines in the form of a flounce. The hem, as before, is depicted in the form of a wavy line.
Summer pencil sundress
In anticipation of the summer season, it is very helpful to have a sketch of a light sundress. Such an image can later be used to prepare patterns and sew your own outfit. Instructions on how to draw a dress in stages:
- As before, begin to draw the top of the outfit.
- Two straps are drawn as two ellipses arranged vertically. The bottom edges of the figures are removed with an eraser.
- Between the bottom points of the straps draw a horizontal line that slightly bends downward. This is the top edge of the bodice.
- From the same outermost points of the straps downwards vertically are two parallel strips that have a characteristic bend in the waist area, and then again are directed to the bottom of the skirt.
- Summer sundress has no clearly defined bodice, belt and skirt, but the design of the dress can be strikingly different.
When coloring such an outfit, you should pay maximum attention to the decoration of the accessory, which can be done in patchwork style or have beautiful outer patches in the form of pockets.
