Brick beading for beginners - easy master classes with simple schemes and cool photo ideas

The most common among the techniques of beadwork is the so-called "bricklaying" or "kamancha weaving". It is an arrangement of glass material in a staggered order.

Although such weaving and resembles a mosaic, but it has significant differences. In a brick weave you can easily add, subtract the number of elements in a row, and you can complement the product with different elements. But many masters combine both mentioned techniques in their works, because the transition lines are imperceptible in either of them.

By far the "weaving camanche" is the easiest. It is great for beginners in needlework. But, like any needlework technique, it has its own nuances. This article is aimed at their analysis.

The technique allows you to make a simple bracelet, or exquisite flowers, jewelry for the house, accessories. Thanks to this method of weaving complex elements are within the power of any craftswoman. Products made in this technique is very difficult to spoil or damage.

Where is it applied

Weaving in the "brickwork" technique is becoming more popular from year to year. Masters with experience can create ingenious masterpieces with this simple technique. Brooches, earrings, interior objects in the technique of checkerboard alternation look simply gorgeous.

When creating animals for trinkets or decorative trees and plants, the technique of "brickwork" is simply indispensable.

Different ornaments

Because of the simplicity of the technique, there are no specific patterns. Nevertheless, the products can turn out very interesting due to the alternation of colors in the weaving. At the expense of this, it is possible to achieve an effect similar to embroidery.

When projecting a pattern, please note that weaving is going on horizontal lines from the bottom up, and the beginning of work is on the bottom right corner.

Needed equipment

Any experienced craftsman will have all the necessary supplies before starting work. Before you start weaving make sure that the most necessary materials and tools are at hand:

  • Beads of one or more colors;
  • A beading needle (make sure it goes through the hole in the bead);
  • fishing line or monofilament;
  • scissors.

When choosing beads for your work, make sure that all the beads are even, equal, well and evenly dyed. The best quality beads are Japanese and Czech. Beads from China often have flaws, but they can be quite good. If the beads are different in size, the product will be crooked.

Weaving "brickwork"

Products in the technique of "masonry" differs from the mosaic more flexibility. For composite products this quality is key. But all the same, very often these techniques are combined and not used in pure form.

Of course, working in the technique of "masonry" requires more time than mosaic, but it is easier to increase and decrease the lines. But both of these basic techniques are recommended for all aspiring needleworkers to learn.

The stitch "weaving camanche" technique

The "bricklaying" technique is very strong, as the monofilament passes through each bead from 2 to 6 times. For the convenience of weaving it is better to draw in advance the scheme on the paper, not forgetting to shift every second row in a staggered order.

This way of weaving is ideal for items of complex or irregular shape. In this simple technique they will look perfect.

The finished work even for beginners will look neat. And another big plus of "kamancha weaving" is that it is difficult to tear due to the tight weave of the elements.

Instructions for making a brick stitch

Before you start working on the piece, you need to make sure all the beads are even, uniform and evenly colored.

Work progress:

  1. Place 2 beads on the monofilament.
  2. Secure them so that a loop is formed between them. To do this, pass the monofilament through the centers of the beads again in a circle and tighten.
  3. Add another bead. To fasten, thread the monofilament from bottom to top into the previous bead, and then from top to bottom into the added bead.
  4. Repeat step 3 until the first line is formed.
  5. In the second row, thread 2 beads.
  6. Pass the thread through the loop formed when weaving the 1st line, and then pass through the 2nd bead of the current bead and tighten.
  7. Add another bead. Pull the thread under the loop below and then through the added bead again.
  8. Continue to form the second row by threading the beads through the loops of the previous row.
  9. All subsequent rows are braided in the same way as the 2nd row. Continue in the same way, reversing the direction of the weaving.
  10. If everything is done correctly, the work will resemble a brick wall.
  11. You can reduce the number of beads when doing the weaving. Depending on where the constriction is, there are several options. To reduce the total number, at the beginning of the row dial in 1 bead instead of 2, and then as described. If it is necessary to remove a bead in the middle, then 2 loops are braided with one bead or just skip one loop and weave on.
  12. If it is necessary to increase the number of beads, then 2 beads are added along the edges, and then another bead is braided at the end of the row (instead of a loop use the final stitch of thread at the end of the previous row). You can also add a bead in the middle of the row. To do this, you need to weave 2 beads into the same loop at once.
  13. When finished, the end of the thread is passed through the beads in any order and the remaining end is cut off. The loop is not tied.
  14. If, during weaving, the thread ends, it is also attached to the beads in random order, and then a new thread is attached in the same way. And you can continue weaving.

The line can be finished with stop beads.

Adding and subtracting beads

From time to time, when weaving a complex product, it becomes necessary to reduce or increase the number of beads. In the "masonry" technique, this is not difficult.

Actions when adding/removing beads:

  1. The easiest thing to do is to change the number of elements at the beginning of the next row.
  2. To decrease the number of beads, it is necessary to weave 1 less piece in the new line.
  3. To decrease the number in the middle, just weave 1 bead through 2 loops or just skip one loop.
  4. If it is necessary to increase the number of beads, then it is enough to hook an extra one at the end of the line by the edge thread.
  5. When an addition is required in the middle, then 2 glass beads are weaved into one loop of the previous row.

Binding elements together

When it is necessary to roll the piece into a circle, then this should be done before the last line is completely closed. Also, when joining the elements, it is not necessary to fasten the end of the weaving thread.

The most important condition is an even number of rows in the united elements.

How not to tie knots?

When weaving in the "kamanchey weaving" technique, no knots are made on the ends of the monofilament or fishing line. To fasten it, the end of the thread is passed through the beads in a chaotic order, and the excess is cut off.

Instructions of experienced craftsmen

Although the technique of "bricklaying" is quite simple, it is better to take into account some nuances.

Features of the technique:

  • It is most reliable to start weaving the first strip in the hand weaving technique;
  • It is not necessary to deviate from the weaving technique if you want to get a guaranteed result;
  • The denser the arrangement of beads, the stiffer the handicraft will be;
  • if necessary, the width can be varied by the degree of tightening;
  • the tension of the thread can be used to make a convex or concave element;
  • by combining beads of different sizes or shapes, a more interesting ornament can be obtained;
  • when weaving details with sharp corners, the first row can be replaced by 1 bead, wrapping it several times with monofilament;
  • Do not use beads with sharp edges, they can cut the thread.
Both sides of the piece are the same, i.e., there is no underside and a front side.

The scarlet flower

In the technique of "masonry" you get the most beautiful poppies from beads. All elements are woven separately.

The necessary materials:

  • needle;
  • fishing line;
  • scarlet beads.

Workflow:

  1. Put 3 beads on the fishing line.
  2. Pull the end of the fishing line through the 1st.
  3. Tighten the construction to form a triangle.
  4. Add 1 more bead and extend the fishing line into the one from which the line comes out. Tighten.
  5. Put on 1 more, and thread the end of the fishing line through the previous one. Tighten.
  6. Continue until you have a petal of the desired size.
  7. The finished piece should have 3 beads on one side of the bottom row and 4 on the other.
  8. For a beautiful flower you need to make at least two dozen petals.
  9. Next you need to combine the petals. This can be done in different ways: fix it on a plastic base with holes, weave with fishing line between each other, glue the base, and so on.

The flower is ready.

Pandora made of beads

The necessary materials:

  • scheme;
  • monofilament;
  • needle;
  • beads in white, black, gray, pink and light green;
  • scissors.

Workflow:

  1. The scheme can be taken ready from the Internet or to construct independently.
  2. Count in advance and sign the number of elements in each line, so as not to make a mistake during the weaving.
  3. As the first row is much shorter than the second one, start weaving from the second one.
  4. Put a black bead on the monofilament.
  5. Pass the thread through the first one and tighten the ring around it.
  6. Add one more bead and secure it by passing the monofilament through the previous one.
  7. Tighten the construction well.
  8. Pass the end of the monofilament through the second bead and add a white element.
  9. Wrap the monofilament around the white element and tighten.
  10. Thread the end of the needle with the monofilament into the white beads and add one more piece.
  11. Tighten the construction by threading the needle through the previous bead.
  12. Thread the end of the monofilament with the needle through the last bead and tighten.
  13. Continue to the end of the row, referring to the diagram.
  14. The third line weave according to the scheme to the middle.
  15. Skip the monofilament through the 2nd row upwards.
  16. Doplettes missed at the beginning of the top of the head.
  17. If the handicraft will be a trinket pendant, at this stage it is necessary to make a loop.
  18. For the loop, thread on the needle a dozen black beads.
  19. Fix the thread with the beads on top.
  20. Return the monofilament on the 3rd row.
  21. Continue to weave according to the scheme.
  22. Next weave a handicraft according to the scheme.
  23. When the weaving needs to make it narrower, just work through the loop.
  24. If necessary to expand, additional beads are added along the edges. They are woven into the same loops with the edge elements.
  25. When the head and torso are ready, the end of the monofilament is hidden in the weaving, and the excess is cut off.
  26. For the keychain, all that is left is to secure the ring to the loop.
