Preparing leaves for crafts

Better crafts are obtained from dried leaves. Therefore, the material requires prior preparation.

Wet leaves are placed in a wide box or basket with ventilation holes and leave in a ventilated room to naturally dry. This method of drying prevents the formation of mold fungus on the raw material.

Many crafts require flat sheet plates. Get this material when you finish drying it under the press.

Half-dry leaves are distributed in a single layer on newspapers and spread in books. Or on a flat surface is placed a small stack of newspapers with embedded leaves, put on top of heavy objects that serve as a press. Material for the crafts will be ready in 14 days.

Drying in special herbarium nets will speed up the process to several days. If you want to start creating immediately, you can dry the leaves with an iron. They are placed in 1 layer between 2 sheets of paper. Set a low temperature on the iron and dry to the desired condition.

Skeletonizing leaves

Sometimes skeletonized leaves are used to give an unusual texture to the craft. They are obtained by heat treatment in a solution of soda. For its preparation, 1 part of soda is taken for 4 parts water.

In a pan with a solution placed freshly harvested leaves. Bring the solution with the raw material to a boil, then leave on low heat for half an hour.

Boiled leaves are removed and placed on a flat surface face up.

After blotting with a napkin, use a toothbrush to free them from the pulp. Rinse with water and leave to dry.

Autumn leaf vase

The original vase of colorful leaves will decorate any interior. The best way to make it is to use large maple leaves. Other materials can be found in every home: PVA glue, balloon, petroleum jelly.

The balloon inflated to the right size is placed in a pot or bowl so that it does not move when working. A layer of vaseline is applied to its surface to prevent a tight grip on the sheet material.

Leaves covered with glue are placed on the ball in several layers. The last layer is additionally covered with glue for a better fixation. The handicraft is dried for 3 days. Pierce the balloon and remove its fragments.

The base for the crown of the tree is made of crumpled paper or newspaper. The resulting ball is fixed with scotch tape, so that it does not unravel. At the attachment point of the branch with the crown, make a small hole.
