How to Draw a Dinosaur: Step-by-Step Drawing of Diplodocus, Tyrannosaurus, Pterodactyl, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, and Plesiosaurus
Dinosaurs are some of the most interesting and mysterious creatures that lived on our planet in ancient times. Many people study the life, structure and diet of these animals with interest. And children will be happy to depict a dinosaur in their sketchbook, notebook, or on paper.
Drawing a dinosaur is easy and simple if you know the sequence of drawing it.
Diplodocus
Diploch is a long and not at all small dinosaur. To make it fit on a sheet of paper, we need to draw it compactly.
- First, let's define the size of the diploch and draw two ovals that represent its head and body. Diplodocs have tiny brains, so the oval outlining the head should be much smaller than the body.
- Next, draw a schematic line from the head to the torso - this will be the neck of the dinosaur. To save space, place the head closer to the body. Then the neck of the dinosaur will not be straight, but curved, as if he turned around and looked back.
- From the body comes out the tail. Draw it with a long curved line, like the neck. The tail can lie on the ground or hang in the air parallel to the body.
- Choose where the legs and jaw will be located. Draw them. Do not forget that diplo-doc should have strong legs, similar to columns, to hold a large weight.
- Detailed drawing of the eyes and claws, not forgetting the fine details.
- The diplodocus had serrations on the surface of its neck, back, and tail; mark them in your drawing.
- At the end of the dinosaur outline, paying attention to the thickness of the lines. Eraser erase all auxiliary lines, which drew earlier.
Tyrannosaurus .
Tyrannosaurus is the main horror of the Mesozoic era. Its distinctive features are its sharp teeth, which must necessarily be reflected in our drawing:
- First of all, we create the main parts of the body: the head with the open mouth and the torso, which consists of two parts. Our dinosaur will stand on its hind legs. Draw a large oval - the main part of the body, and above it a smaller circle (thorax). Above is the head of the dinosaur. Let's depict it in the form of two elongated ovals, superimposed on each other, to get a head with an open jaw.
- Ovals depicting the body, complement the paws and feet. Tyrannosaurus legs bend at the knees, so we draw a three-step paw shape: hips, shins, and feet. We do the same with the feet - they are small, as if dangling in the air.
- To the lower part of the body dorisovyvayut tail. It can be straight or slightly curved, depending on what Tyrannosaurus in the figure - standing or running after prey.
- Connect all the parts with lines into a single figure, to get recognizable features. Do not forget about the neck.
- Outline the head, smooth out the jaw line. Eraser erase unnecessary protrusions.
- We complete our drawing with details: sharp claws and teeth, eyes and nose of the dinosaur. The bloodthirsty predator is almost ready.
- Finishing the image, trace the Tyrannosaurus along the contour, adding volume to it. And get rid of all the extra lines, getting a final drawing.
Pterodactyl
The pterodactyl is the predecessor of our modern birds. Therefore, our dinosaur will be depicted in flight, spreading its wings in the air:
- We start drawing the pterodactyl by planning on paper its head and body. The small oval will stand for the skull, and the larger one for the torso.
- Let's draw a line that connects the two parts of the body and forms the neck. It should be medium size: not thin and not too long.
- We move on to legs and wings. Since we are drawing a dinosaur in flight, the wings should be spread and the legs in the air. From the torso upward are long thin legs, from them begin wide wings in the form of triangles.
- The pterodactyl has a long and sharp beak for grasping food (similar to a modern stork) and a long comb at the back of the head. We draw them as elongated cones.
- The pterodactyl is almost finished. We only need to erase all unnecessary things from the paper and trace the drawing. Remember that the wings should look thinner compared to other parts of the body. To do this, shade the wings of a dinosaur with a pencil.
Triceratops
Triceratops is a peace-loving animal that eats grass. You can draw it in our drawing surrounded by lush greenery:
- Draw one large oval in the middle of the sheet (this will be the mighty body of the animal) and next to it on the same line two smaller ovals (the skull and bone collar behind it), superimposed one on top of the other.
- The next step will be the legs of triceratops. To do this, on the lower part of the torso schematically depict three circles (if our dinosaur is walking or two, if it is standing), from which the legs will depart. They are drawn wide and strong. In this case, the back legs are higher than the front ones.
- Now proceed to depict the tail at the end of the body. It can either be in the air or on the ground. At the base it is wider, and the end thinner.
- Let's move on to the detailed drawing of the head. With a few lines, give shape to the collar and muzzle, removing all unnecessary things beyond these boundaries with the eraser. As a result, you should get a recognizable triceratops head.
- Next, let's take up drawing the horns and beak. Two long horns drawn on the head itself and one small one in the nose area, like a rhinoceros. Since triceratops fed mostly on grass and tree branches, it had a beak instead of sharp teeth to nibble leaves with. At the end of its elongated muzzle, it had a small beak like a parrot's thickened beak. Let us depict the beak with reference to this description.
- The main part of triceratops is ready. We only need to add details: draw eyes and nose, claws on paws, shading the body to give the appearance of dense skin and folds. Along the edge of the bone collar we draw a wavy line.
Stegosaurus .
This dinosaur is known for having special plates on its back in a row, their purpose is still considered controversial. But that's what makes Stegosaurus especially interesting to draw:
- Let's start drawing a dinosaur step by step with its main part - its body. Stegosaurus is a big and massive animal, so its torso should be voluminous. We depict it in the form of a pear, where the wider part is higher on the paper, and tapering - below. A little further away we draw an elongated skull, also in the shape of a small pear.
- Next we draw the neck and tail. Rounded triangle connect the two "pears", going beyond their contours. Torso attach long tail, lying parallel to the body.
- Legs in Stegosaurus grow high, so there is schematically draw a circle, limbs go down from it. We do the same with the front paws. They depart from the shoulder joint and are slightly smaller in size than the rear ones. Having drawn paws on one side of the animal, move on to the other side, which is not visible. From there, only parts of the shin and feet will be visible.
- The big difference between Stegosaurus and other species is the plates on the surface of its back, tail, and neck. They look like pentagons, with a sharp apex. Arrange them along the length of the body.
- At the very end of the tail we draw four sharp spines - long and sharp needle-like outgrowths. Stegosaurus used them to ward off predators.
- Move on to the head and mark there small eyes and nose points. Closed mouth draw a wavy line.
- Completing the drawing, outline stegosaurus with a pencil or felt-tip pen and delete everything extraneous, beyond the contour with an eraser.
Plesiosaur
A species of prehistoric lizard that has no legs and lives in water all the time. Plesiosaur is considered a relative of the Loch Ness monster. Let's try to draw this unusual animal:
- Draw an elongated oval, the barrel-shaped body of our dinosaur in the water.
- From this oval upwards we draw an elongated long neck. Since plesiosaur lived in the sea, for the convenience of drawing it, you can display the boundaries of water and air at the level of the neck.
- To the neck we draw a small head, with ajar mouth. It too will be depicted as an elongated oval, but in place of the mouth we draw two small lines.
- Plesiosaur has flippers instead of legs. It is them draw in the lower part of the body. Two fins, originating from the body and two others, located on the other side, and therefore less visible.
- Dorisovyvaju small tail in the form of a rounded triangle, which also takes part in the swim.
- Finally erase unnecessary lines, tracing for clarity of the silhouette. Detailed tracing eyes, nose and mouth of the dinosaur, shading or coloring the finished drawing.
Once you understand how to draw a dinosaur for kids, you can start with more complex animals. Or depict other dinosaurs, based on the drawing technique of existing ones.
