The coaster in patchwork style

You will need the following materials:

  1. A stack of colored scraps 14 x 14 cm.
  2. A piece of fabric for sealing.
  3. Marker.
  4. Wearable fabric for the back.

Creation Process:

  1. Two layers of lining material are attached to the inside of the block, then the layers are stitched together. Quilt this tiny quilt as you feel comfortable making it.
  2. We choose a suitable round object, put it on the quilt and outline it with a marker.
  3. Carefully piping around the outlined line. It is advised to go 2-3 times with a sewing machine.
  4. A circle of fabric is cut, then the circles are combined with each other and pinned with small clothespins.
  5. Having created a small indentation, all the elements are sewn together with a sewing machine, leaving only a small gap for turning out.
  6. Short cuts are made along the circle, so that the material will not be torn out later.
  7. Then the backing is turned out, sewn up the last gap.
  8. Now it is necessary to thoroughly iron our product.
  9. Making a 3-centimeter indentation, stitching is done in a circle.

Wicker coasters

To make them you will need:

  • Tubes from newspapers, magazines, notebooks, etc.
  • Thick cotton thread.

Instructions:

  1. To make 1 coaster, you will need about 20 sheets of newspaper. Twist them thinly, then PVA glue the edges of the paper and leave to dry.
  2. Tubes are twisted into a spiral. But tightly, with no unnecessary gaps and voids, well lubricated with PVA glue and again removed to the side. The tubes can be placed and rolled in a few rows, so the manufacturing process is noticeably accelerated.

You can also make a stand from birch bark that was just taken from birch-tree logs. Such birch-tree bark splits up perfectly, after that you can make the tubes easily.

The birch bark stand gives off a pleasant aroma when a hot pot or pan stands on it.

Pebble and Shell Coaster

The following materials will be needed:

  • Pebbles and seashells.
  • Epoxy resin.
  • Any silicone mold.

Instructions for creation:

  1. Pebbles and shells are placed in a pre-cleaned and well-dried silicone mold, you can lay out a pattern.
  2. Epoxy resin is mixed with the hardener in the required volume (read the manufacturer's instructions carefully).
  3. The resin is carefully poured into the mold, preferably in a thin stream, so that no bubbles are formed, and the resin flowed into all the cracks.
  4. After curing (24-36 hours) carefully take it out of the mold.

Wooden coaster

To make this handicraft, you need dried tree branches with a diameter of 5-8 cm. Washers can be sawn with a coping saw or a hand saw. Seven-millimeter saws are thoroughly sanded with sandpaper on the front side. All parts are connected to the pyramid with PVA glue.

Then it goes to drying under the press - the glue should finally dry in 12 hours. If PVA glue is not available, titanium glue can be used, but drying must be done in a ventilated room.

Titanium is capable of holding temperatures up to +150° Celsius without deteriorating.

The same technology can be used to make a hotplate out of plywood.

Pay attention! Coasters produced with their own hands on the basis of wood, over time will take moisture from the environment, and therefore you will begin to notice a slow deformation of the substrate. To prevent this, you should cover all wooden elements of the product with varnish.

Wine Cork Coaster

This is probably the easiest and most practical way to make a coaster. Wine corks are the best way to make a heat-resistant coaster, due to the fact that they have low thermal conductivity.

You can lay the corks on a dense cloth base, and you can even fix them with thermal adhesive, because the corks will not heat up to the base, and the glue will not melt.

It is also possible to allow the corks on small washers, and then assemble from them a stand of any shape. Be it a circle, square, triangle, or bee cell.

The washers are stapled together with a stapler, the staples are perfectly absorbed into the base, so the stand will hold its shape perfectly. To be important to staple the stand on both sides.

Important! To make a coaster out of cork only cork oak cork is suitable. For this homemade, under no circumstances can you use silicone or polyethylene ones, as they can simply ignite from too hot a pan.

Knitted coasters

For a coaster you need yarn of the chosen color and a crochet hook.

A step by step scheme of making:

  1. Knitting begins with the classic method.
  2. 4 columns of stitched loops are knitted, after that 1 control loop is made, the algorithm is performed 9 times.
  3. The pattern consists of 5 such pieces and 2 loops. So you need to repeat 9 times.
  4. The next circle is 9 patterns of 6 pieces with a stitch and 3 loops.
  5. At each step, the volume of complex and simple loops increases, and the main algorithm is duplicated again.
  6. Then a rose pattern with an individual pattern is made.
  7. At the end of the stand must be thoroughly knit. Every 3-4 circles you need to change the color from light to darker shade.

Hot food coasters made of felt

Materials and tools:

  • felt (white, yellow);
  • Mulberry thread (of similar colors);
  • sharp scissors;
  • needles (for fixing the workpieces).

Detailed instructions:

  1. Cut 2 circles Ø 9 cm from the white felt material, one circle Ø 12 cm from the yellow one and another 2 circles Ø 8 cm. The last 2 circles should be cut into 8 parts each.
  2. Place the slices on the white elements, fasten them.
  3. Stitch the white circles with the colored one between them. Sew with a similar stitch, but with light colored threads.

According to a similar scheme is made coaster of hot jute.

Coaster from CDs and fabric

CDs perfectly fit the diameter of the mug coasters. So with their use, a huge variety of ways to create coasters for high-temperature cookware have been invented.

One such way is to wrap and cover the disk with fabric. It is important to use a pad of sintepon to increase the insulating characteristics.

The fabric is cut with a small margin, folded over the edge of the disk, stitched at equal distances and threaded on the other side.

Selection Tips

Before you go to the checkout and pay for the hot plate, you need to look at and evaluate such criteria:

  1. Resistance to elevated temperatures.
  2. Manufacturing quality. At this point it is important to pay special attention, try to find all the elements that stick out, poorly glued or not all stitched. It is better to pass by such stands at once, as they can be thrown out after a month of use.
Shake the stand in your hand a little, if you feel that some of its elements are loose, it is better to refuse the purchase. It is also a good idea to have an anti-slip material, both from the top and from the bottom.
  3. It was also nice if the material of the stand was anti-slip, both top and bottom. For this purpose, a fine abrasive coating is applied at the top, which does an excellent job of fixing the dishes.
  4. Easy and convenient movement on the table or other surface.
  5. The coating of the stand plays an equally important role. Lightly scrape the surface with your fingernail, the coating should not come off.
  6. The surface of the stand should be flat and without a slope. A flat surface with no slope is not necessary at all, since it reduces the contact area, and consequently the stability of the cookware.

Thinking in advance about the parameters of the product, you can save yourself a lot of frustration with the purchase, as well as avoid unnecessary costs. Correctly chosen base under the hot dishes will serve you for more than 1 year.

We are sure that you were interested to read the article, also we want to believe that you will definitely try to make your own hot casserole. Especially since we have provided many interesting ways, and you can choose the one that you prefer. Good luck!
